Bespoke Staircase Design Tailored To Your Home & Lifestyle
A staircase is a permanent feature of the home, so its design needs to suit the space as well as the way you want the surrounding interior to look. Our bespoke approach gives you the opportunity to make those decisions around your own property rather than choosing from a standard staircase design.
When discussing bespoke staircases in Wigan, we consider what is already in place, what you would like to change and the materials that could work for the finished staircase. Some customers want to retain the character of a traditional staircase while updating individual components. Others are looking for a noticeably more contemporary finish using glass or metal.
Our team can provide advice on the available options while keeping your own ideas central to the project. Different handrails, balustrades, newel posts and spindles can all influence the finished appearance, while combining materials can create further possibilities.
The result is a staircase designed around your home and preferences, whether the project involves making changes to an existing flight or starting again with a complete replacement.
Staircase Renovations & Makeovers In Wigan
Staircase renovation has been our speciality for more than 30 years. If the structure of your existing staircase works for your home but its appearance has become dated, renovation can provide an opportunity to make a significant change without automatically replacing the entire staircase.
Our staircase renovations in Wigan can involve updating the features that give the staircase its character. Depending on the project, this can include replacing or changing balustrades, handrails, newel posts and spindles or introducing different materials into the existing design.
A traditional staircase can therefore be given a more contemporary appearance through glass panels or metal details. An older wooden staircase can also be refurbished while retaining a style that suits the rest of the property.
We have experience renovating different staircase layouts, including straight and L-shaped designs. Our team manages the renovation from the design stage through to fitting, helping customers understand what can realistically be achieved with the staircase already in their home.
Renovating rather than replacing can be particularly useful when you are happy with the position and general layout of your staircase but want to change how it looks. We can assess your requirements and discuss the options that suit the existing structure.
Full Staircase Replacement Services
Not every staircase project is best approached as a renovation. A complete replacement may be considered as part of a larger refurbishment, when the staircase is being moved or when you want a substantially different design.
Our replacement staircases in Wigan covers the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke staircases. Each replacement is planned for the individual property, allowing decisions about the staircase design and materials to be made around the space available and the result you want to achieve.
Replacement staircases can use timber, glass and metal, with options ranging from classic wooden designs to contemporary staircases incorporating glass balustrades. Transform Staircases can also work with different layouts, including straight and L-shaped staircases.
Our team can explain the differences between renovating and replacing your staircase once we understand the project. This means you can consider an approach based on your home and the work required rather than assuming that a complete replacement is always necessary.
Materials We Work With: Wood, Glass & Metal
Choosing the right materials is an important part of creating a staircase that works with the rest of your home. We provide wooden, glass and metal staircases in Wigan, with different materials also able to be combined within a bespoke design.
Wooden Staircases
Wood can work across both traditional and more contemporary staircase designs. Transform Staircases specialises in bespoke wooden staircases, including oak staircases, with options available for both renovation and new staircase projects.
Details such as spindles and newel posts can be incorporated according to the chosen design. Wood can also be paired with glass or metal, allowing homeowners to retain timber within their staircase while changing the appearance of the balustrade.
Glass Staircases
Glass is often used when homeowners want to give their staircase a more contemporary appearance. Glass panels can allow more natural light through the staircase and can be incorporated into an existing wooden frame or included within a replacement staircase.
Our glass staircases can combine glass balustrades with timber or metal elements. This makes glass an option for customers who want to modernise their staircase without necessarily moving away from other materials already used throughout the home.
Metal Staircases
Metal provides another way to change the character of a staircase. Our metal staircases can incorporate wrought iron components in traditional designs or combine metal with glass for a more contemporary finish.
Existing iron staircases can also be renovated, so metal is not limited to completely new staircase installations. We can discuss the different combinations available and how they could work with the design of your property.

Staircases In Wigan FAQs
What is the average cost of a new staircase in Wigan?
The cost of a staircase depends on the work involved, the materials selected and whether you are renovating an existing staircase or having a complete replacement installed. We recommend discussing your requirements with our team so we can provide a quote based on the project rather than an estimate that may not reflect what you need.
How much does it cost to replace an entire staircase?
Replacement staircase costs vary according to the design, materials, layout and installation requirements. Because our replacement staircases are bespoke, the price will depend on the individual specification. Contact our team for a quotation based on your property and preferred design.
Is it illegal to have stairs without a banister?
Requirements for guarding and handrails depend on the staircase and circumstances, with staircases in homes subject to relevant building regulations. If your project involves changing an existing balustrade or installing a new staircase, suitable safety requirements need to be considered as part of the design.
Is it a big job to replace a staircase?
Replacing an entire staircase is more involved than renovating selected parts of an existing one. The amount of work required depends on the staircase layout and the replacement being installed. Our team can explain what your particular project will involve before work begins.
Can an existing staircase be modernised?
Yes. Staircase renovation is our main specialism and can make a substantial difference to an existing staircase. Glass panels, new handrails, spindles, newel posts and other changes can be considered depending on the existing staircase and the finish you want.
Can I visit your staircase showroom in Wigan?
